Hi, I'm Elena Sargeant—a CELTA-certified teacher specializing in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Russian language instruction.
I'm also a professional English–Russian translator and interpreter, experienced tourist guide, graduate Building Surveyor, passionate Historian, and published Author.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL / TEFL)
I teach English to children and adults whose first language is not English, working with learners at every level — from absolute beginners to advanced speakers. My teaching takes place in a variety of settings, including English language summer schools, day and evening classes, and online. I cover a wide spectrum of needs, from general English to highly specialised Business English, with courses tailored to the specific requirements of individual companies and industries.
English - Russian translating and interpreting
One of the proudest highlights of my interpreting career was serving as interpreter for President Mikhail Gorbachev and Mrs Raisa Gorbacheva during their visit to Aberdeen in December 1993, where President Gorbachev received the "Freedom of Aberdeen Award."
In addition to interpreting at the ceremony, I translated all brochures and supporting materials into Russian for the presidential couple and the wider Russian delegation. I also provided cultural and linguistic guidance to Mr Pavel Palazhchenko, President Gorbachev’s lead interpreter, clarifying the meaning of uniquely Scottish terms such as “Lord Provost” and “Fit like”.
